Navigating the Night

Navigating The Night is a visual expression into DeSaro’s vulnerable experiences of grief, sorrow and finding her way through dark seasons of life. It is here, in the darkness, that she finds beauty in the rebirth of new beginnings, transformation and hope to persevere. Navigating The Night is an invitation for viewers to immerse themselves into the splendor of nature; the essence of night. The sweeping skies at dusk, small hints of light and color, solitary evening walks in the forest and dark tranquil waters are experienced and expressed through color field paintings, eco printed silks and immersive installation.

DeSaro expresses the beauty and heaviness of the darkness of night within creation in comparison to and a reflection of the inner soul-work of her personal growth and healing through the various emotions of grief, meeting with her own inner shadows, her recovery journey through trauma and the simultaneous emotions of joy and peace in the midst. Both are sublime experiences for the artist, completely inter-connected in her relationship with God. She asks herself the question: how do we live in a world that is both so beautiful and yet so destructive? DeSaro sees the world through equal lenses, choosing to see beauty and hope as a focal point. She has a longing for a healed and restored humanity; she has a longing for the unity of Heaven and Earth as one. 

Engaging all of the senses, Navigating The Night is a calling to experience challenging seasons in our lives as beautiful, maturing and meaningful for our emotional and spiritual growth. Without darkness, light cannot exist.

“Surely the darkness will hide me and the light will become night around me.” And yet… even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light with you.” Psalm 139: 11-12
